Personal vitae
Born 1955 in Milan, married, three young sons (ages 8,10,13).
He studied mathematics at the Scuola Normale Superiore of Pisa under the direction of Prof. Sergio Spagnolo and the late Prof. De Giorgi, a world-class expert in mathematical analysis.
After receiving his degree in 1978 and being junior lecturer for some time, he became full professor at the Polytechnic of Turin in 1987; since 1990 he works at the School of Engineering of the University of Parma.
His studies concern the calculus of variations (for non-specialists, this is a branch of mathematical analysis), and especially (numbers refer to the list of papers)
  • the aspects concerning the mechanics of elastic solids (and recently fluids [28,29,32]), a field in which he obtained some widely known results ([6,9,10,17]),
  • some cases of energies possessing a bulk and a surface part, with links to image reconstruction and micromagnetic materials ([24,25,26,34]).
  • Apart from giving lectures in scores of Universities, he visited (among others) the Carnegie Mellon University in Pittsburgh, the Loyola University in Chicago, the Max-Planck Institut für Mathematik in Leipzig, the Universidad Autonoma in Madrid, the Vladimir University in Vladimir (Russia), the Institut für Angewandte Mathematik and the SFB 256 of the Universität Bonn, the Academia Sinica in Taipei, the University of Toulon and Var.
Former Director of the Department of Mathematics, in charge of a teaching enhancement program of the School of Engineering, Rector's Delegate for the interaction between High Schools and University.

    List of publications
You may download many papers as pdf files, under the usual rules (personal use only, you do not violate any copyright etc.); for some of the older ones, this may not correspond to the actual printed article, as only the TeX file of the preprint was available. Due to some recent mishaps, I also include the following: if you want to publish a paper under your own name, please do not copy any part of my papers, but use your brain instead.
